What is SUDEP Action Day?

Every year the Epilepsy Foundation recognizes a day devoted to raising awareness to what #SUDEP is worldwide, and honor those that have been effected by #SUDEP. (Sudden unexpected death in #Epilepsy). One of the largest fears amongst those that live with their own #MyGlitch and their families.

Who is at greatest risk?

According to the Epilepsy Foundation & CDC? (These are a few largest factors, but anyone with #MyGlitch can have #SUDEP happen to them)

1. Those that have Tonic Clonic or also known as Grand Mal #seizures (has largest risk)

2. Night time or known as nocturnal seizures

3. Missing medications or not taking them as prescribed, because this usually leads to more seizures in a day, consecutively

4. Uncontrolled #seizures

How many people have died of #SUDEP?

Although there is not a definitive number on this, because individuals who have #Epilepsy and passed away after a #seizure, they may also have other health factors that is listed as cause of death. Researchers of the CDC estimate for every 1,000 people with #Epilepsy, at least 1.16 every year in the U.S., but these numbers do vary. (Now can you see why there needs to be more research and why so many families have this fear?)

What causes death in #SUDEP?

According to the Epilepsy Foundation in March 2022, it is still not clear of the "official cause". Some researchers think that a #Seizure causes an irregular heart rhythm, and others have shown difficulties in breathing. Either of these can happen during or just after a #seizure resulting in #SUDEP
